Problem : Windows help issues "Unable to display the find tab (177)" error.
Cause : RichWin 4.2+ is in memory.
Solution : Temporary quit RichWin 4.2+, rebuild the find tab database, then restart RichWin 4.2+ if required. If Richwin 4.2+ is not present, quit all system tray programs, delete .gid and fts, then rebuild. Do not delete ctn files.
OS: Windows 95.

Problem : Adobe Type Manager Deluxe 4 Help issues the violation error.
Cause: Unknown.
Solution : Not known, but first time accessing the help system will not see the problem. No problem when running on Windows ME.
OS: Windows 95.

Problem : Always get Registry Problem error message after playing Microsoft Flight Simulator 98. The error message is Windows encountred an error in the system registry. Please close your programs and restart Windows now. You may lose some of the information from the current session. Restarting will allow the registry to reintialize
Cause: System runs out of memory.
Solution : Increase the memory from 32MB to 64MB.
OS: Windows 95.

Problem : When access the Chinese Workart via Insert Object in Microsoft Publisher, Windows will issues an Exception error 0E.
Cause : Unknown.
Solution : Access the Chinese Wordart from the Richwin's menu, then copy and paste onto the Publisher file or use the version of wordart included with Publisher.
OS: Windows 95.

Problem : Microsoft Draw 1.01 cannot be launched via the "Insert Object" items. Error says that the server applications cannot be found.
Cause : The registry points to the Publisher CD's directory.
Solution : Find the Microsoft Draw keys from the Registry Editor and edit the keys (2 keys).
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Adobe Acrobat Reader cannot print documents created by Adobe Distiller for power macintosh.
Cause : Unknown. Suspect due to RichWin 4.2+.
Solution : Disable Richwin 4.2+ when printing.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : During printing of webpages, the URL on the upper right corner cuts off at the last 2 characters.
Cause : The document page is set to letter when using A4 size paper.
Solution : Set the paper size to A4 when using A4 paper.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : When trying to access Infodesk - the help file for Norton Utilities 2.0, there is an error message saying "Unable to find the file H:\NU95\INFODESK.CNT ".
Cause : Missing Infodesk.* files in D:\Program Files\System directory.
Solution : Copy the Infodesk.* files from D:\Windows\Help directory onto the D:\Program Files\System directory.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : When playing Microsoft Flight Simulation and change airplanes during after the scenery loaded, causes GPF in wsengine (Richwin 4.2+ DLL file).
Cause : Incompatibilities between FS98 and Richwin 4.2+.
Solution : Unload Richwin 4.2+ from memory first before running FS98. Or do not change aircraft halfway through the program.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Norton Utilities 2.0 for Windows95 caused Invalid Page Fault in Memory tab when the details button is pressed.
Cause : TRAYWIN (MS feedback Pro Joystick's Game Device Profiler) is the culprit.
Solution : Double click the items to view details rather than let the program read all (Must skip TRAYWIN in order to avoid the fault). Norton Utilities 3.0 for Windows95 is OK but the upgrade to version 3.05 replicates the problem. Upgrade to version 3.06 solves the problem.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : The Microsoft Sidewinder Feedback Pro joystick bundled game MDK cannot be played after installation. The screen blanks off and return to Windows.
Cause : The "" (quotes) in the shortcut target directory.
Solution : Remove the quotes will solve the problem.

Problem : ULEAD's iPhoto Express application issues Invalid Page Fault when trying to insert Chinese Text into images.
Cause : Unknown.
Solution : Uses other image editing software (MGI Photosuite and Aldus Photostyler to do the Chinese Text insertion.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : When using MS Paintbrush to open PCX files, the system will issue MSPAINT.EXE caused fault #c0000005 in MSPAINT.EXE at address 014f:0042d3fe .
Cause : Unknown. Bugs in the program, PC in Office also caused the same error. Known isssue of Microsoft.
Solution : Associate PCX files with other graphics package (e.g. Ulead's IPhoto Express).
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : After installing Ulead IPhoto Express photo-editing software, the system caused a pause at the boot up time (about 10 seconds).
Cause : This is due to some fonts not installed. The Ulead disc does not seem to install these fonts. Windows tried to load them but cannot find them, issued with failure code 0002.
Solution : Use Registry editor to delete these font entries so that Windows do not try to load them.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : When click on the "Click here for details" area of the alert pop-up window of Norton Utilities System Doctor 3.0, it will cause illegal actions if Richwin 4.2+ is active in memory.
The error message:

Cause : Conflict with Richwin 4.2+.
Solution : Disable Richwin 4.2+ before press select the selection.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Netscape and Internet Explorer 3.0 cannot activate the dial-up networking dialer. The programs immediately displayed the network error.
Cause : Unknown.
Solution : Remove Internet Explorer 3.0, Internet news and mail, then reinstall the applications.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Caere Omnipage Limited Edition 5.0 cannot interpret a document properly after a few times of use. Cause : Unknown.
Solution : Need to re-install the application and get another registration number from Caere.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Volume control apps cannot be launched. But sound card is in working condition. The apps actually run but did not display, when press Ctrl-Alt-Del, can see the apps actually active in memory.
Cause : Unknown. Possibly due to the "auto configure" checkbox is clicked, Sound Blaster 16 Basic is not a PNP device.
Solution : Uncheck the "auto configure" checkbox. Delete any vendor added inf file for the sound card (ie to use Win95 default drivers), then upgrade to the latest DirectX.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Sidekick 98 hangs at the loading screen after executing MS Exchange or Outlook.
Cause : Cause by Exchange DLL in memory.
Solution : Uses the task manager and close the Exchange DLL.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Microtek ScanWizard software version 2.42 issues timeout error and out of scan boundary error during previewing of scans. Scanner Test software also cannot detect scanner. Swiss Knief software can initilize the scanner.
Cause : Suspect caused by updated Adaptec ASPI SCSI drivers.
Solution : Uninstall the scanner and Adaptec drivers. Remove WNASPI32.DLL and WINASPI.DLL from Windows\system directory, remove APIX.VXD and ASPIENUM.VXD from Windows\system\iosystem directory. Extract the WNASP32.DLL, WINASPI.DLL and APIX.VXD from Win95 CAB3 file. Reinstall EZ-SCSI from Microtek CD to get the ASPIENUM.VXD file.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Windows execute blue screen faults after viewing at the different network components.
Cause : Richwin 4.2+ is active.
Solution : Disable Richwin temporary before viewing the properties.

Problem : Norton Utilities 3.0 (Windows95 version) NDIAGS and NDD DOS based applications cannot run under DOS Prompt, need to boot to native DOS to operate.
Cause : This is to replace Windows Scandisk, it should not be run manually.
Solution : Do not run the applications from DOS Prompt within Windows95.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : ATI Video Player version 5.2 cannot play VCD, disk file is OK.
Cause : The CD-ROM drive driver is corrupted.
Solution : Refresh the CD-ROM driver using the Windows95 hardware setup wizard.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Windows95 Add/Remove program did not list all installable programs (e.g. scandisk).
Cause : This is by design.
Solution : No solution.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Unable to setup DirectX via the add/remove software options in the control panel. Program hang, cause illegal instruction when try second time.
Cause : Unknown.
Solution : Add DirectX using Windows95 safe mode.

Problem : When the Picture Display option is selected in Microsoft Publisher 97, generates GPF in module MACX4.DRV at 000a:000016a7.
Cause : Driver corruption or bugs.
Solution : Solved after installing the 14 Sep 98 patch.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Quicklink II fax cannot convert bmp monocrome format to faxable format.
Cause : Program limitation.
Solution : Save the graphics in tiff color mode in iPhoto Express, then open using MGI Photosuite SE 3.0 to save as tiff monochrome format. The image scanned must be in Line Art mode (Monochrome).
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Norton Anti-Virus unable to load drivers after reinstallation.
Cause : Needs updating.
Solution : Download the SEVINST.EXE files from website.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : MS Office 97 applications cannot open a related document.
Cause : Unknown. Suspect dll file corruption.
Solution : Reinstall using setup program from HDD.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Received "restore registry from backup" error messages two times.
Cause : Registry corruption, Windows unable to successfully repair it.
Solution : Restore registry using the Windows95 suggested method.

Problem : When Richwin is set to Big5 Fanti, the font maker cannot work. Will cause General Protection fault.
Cause : Unknown.
Solution : Set Richwin to Big5 Jianti.

Problem : CheckIt 98 active update program issues an error saying that cannot connect to the active update server.
Cause : The active update server is down.
Solution : Try again when the server is up.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : The Epson Status Monitor not been able to display the ink status (the status are greyed out for both the blank and color ink).
Cause : Unknown.
Solution : Reinstall the driver.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : CheckIt 98 fails motherboard test when testing RTC.
Cause : The Y2K fix is activated.
Solution : Disable the Y2K fix (by editing config.sys and autoexec.bat file). This fix cause the RTC to read date as 0099 so the test cannot trigger the alarm.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : If use Checkit for DOS version 4.0 under pure DOS environment (no TSR, bypassing autoexec and config files), the Test will not return any report which it should. The screen hangs.
Cause : Unknown.
Solution : Allow to use config and autoexec. Or use SYSTEST instead of CHECKIT.

Problem : After reinstalled Richwin 4.2+, Microsoft Publisher cannot insert graphics when Richwin is active in memory. It says Windows is low on memory.
Cause : Suspected caused by OLE.
Solution : Unload Richwin from memory.

Problem : Rescue32 caused an invalid page fault while trying to run from system doctor.
Cause : Richwin is present in memory.
Solution : Disable Richwin.

Problem : Norton register editor cause fault when trying to find a particular string, e.g. "Richwin".
Cause : Unknown. Caused by MFC42.DLL file.
Solution : Expand the MFC42.ZIP file from Windows installation CD and overwrites the file in d:\windows\system directory. To overwrite the file, must boot to DOS.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Win95 names Com1 as Com3.
Cause : BIOS need to specify the correct Com1 I/O address.
Solution : Go to BIOS and edit Com1 I/O address.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : During startup, windows 95 issues an error saying that Shell.Dll file is being over written by an application run recently. Ask to restart to restore.
Cause : Richwin 97 installation.
Solution : Copy the file from windows\system\shell.bak to shell.dll.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : Cannot dial in to Pacific Internet. The Dia Up Networking client cannot get the "Login" prompt when using script.
Cause : Data cable on modem has intermittent connections.
Solution : Reseat the data cable on the modem. This is the solution if the modem is unable to receive or send fax.

Problem : After upgraded Netscape Communicator 4.05 with 4.7 from Pacific Internet, cannot post messages to newsgroup, error message "From: Address not in Internet syntax".
Cause : The name specified in the preference has non-text values. The Chinese character is unrecongizable.
Solution : Delete the Chinese characters.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : If IPX protocol is removed from the Network application, Windows will issue "Netware-compatible shell not available" error.
Cause : Windows needed the IPX file as the Registry may have pointed to this file.
Solution : Do not remove the IPX protocol. No solution.

Problem : When restarting Netscape Navigator, an error saying that no response from server, cannot automatic initiate Dial-up networking.
Cause : Another Netscape instance is active.
Solution : Delete the netscape instance from taskbar.

Cause : Logitech Mouseware version 9.00.99 is installed.

Cause : DirectX 5.0 is uninstalled.

Problem : CTWAVE (Creative WaveStudio) cause a GPF: The 16-bit program 'Creative WaveStudio' caused the error: General Protection Fault (GPF). Solution : None. No problem after upgrading to SBAWE64's WaveStudio, initially was using SB16's WaveStudio.

Problem : CD-ROM drive will not autorun CD-ROM programs, but can Autorun audio CDs.
Cause : Registry settings in registry is changed.
Solution : Change the key value in NoDriveTypeAutoRun: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer, from B5 00 00 00 to 95 00 00 00.
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : After CD-ROM autorun a CD-ROM program, unable to type anything in MS-DOS prompt, full screen or windowed. Need to reboot computer to be able to type in DOS prompt. Running audioCD or CD that do not autorun will not have problems.
Cause : Unknown
Solution : Use Norton Commander on Windows Desktop to run DOS commands .
OS : Windows 95.

Problem : After upgraded EZ SCSI drivers to version 4.60, Microtek V310 scanner do not work.
Cause : Incompatible ASPI drivers.
Solution : Use EZ SCSI 4.01 drivers.

Problem : Epson Stylus Color 400 status monitor does not comes on, even reinstall drivers from CD-ROM.
Cause : Unknown.
Solution : Reinstall driver from fd directory in CD-ROM.

Cause : No UDF driver installed.
Solution : Install Adaptec UDF Reader software downloadable from Adaptec website.

Problem : Internet Explorer 5.5 is unable to display the login page for DBS bank Internet Banking.
Cause : Cache documents on hard disk.
Solution : Empty the off line content cache.

Problem : When playing audio CD using Mucsicmatch Jukebox or Windows Media Player, the speaker becomes very noisy or crash (Media player).
Cause : Digital playing is allowed.
Solution : Install the Intel ATA-100 controller patch if the motherboard is using Intel chipset.

Problem : When visit Hardwarezone.com website's forum page, it will ask to download index.php.
Cause : Website problem.
Solution : Delete the PHP cookies and cache pages. Reload.

Problem : Microsoft Flight Simulator 98 help file cannot play video and show picture, will says "Unable to locate media, ..."
Cause : CDROM drive letter changed due to additional or re-partitioned HDD.
Solution : Copy fs98.cnt from FS98 CDROM, then put the CDROM in the 1st CDROM.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Norton WinDoctor says WAV file is associated to an unknown file types wav file.
Cause : Windows ME. : Unknown. Suspect corrupted wavfile key in registry.
Solution : Open Windows Media Player and reassociate the WAV file to Media Player.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Unable to perform fax to some fax numbers, some fax numbers are ok. Modem used is Lucent Win Modem.
Cause : Unknwown. Suspect due to Winmodem or Windows Me
Solution : None.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Adaptec CD Creator unable to erase a CDRW after erasing one previously. Error - CD is in the process of becoming ready. Have to reboot to get it working again.
Cause : Unknown.
Solution : Restart CD Creator software before erasing another CDRW or erase the CDRW using the CD | CD Information.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : After removing previous version of Intel Active Monitor software and reinstalled the new version. There is an error saying "No sensors were detected.".
Cause : SMBus driver uninstalled by previous version uninstallation
Solution : Install the Intel SMBus driver from intel motherboard CD.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Sound Blaster Live! DE 5.1. apps cannot run after installing Sound Blaster Live! DE 5.1 card and driver.
Cause : Install driver manually by browsing to directory. This is not the right method as wrong driver can be selected.
Solution : Use the installation program on the CD to install the drivers.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Computer crash with Exception 0E in NTKERN after performing registry optimization using Symantec's Optimization Wizard.
Cause : Suspect bugs in Symantec Optimization Wizard. Suspect caused by Sound Blaster Live! DE 5.1 registry additions.
Solution : Use scanregw /opt to do registry optimization.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Registry creating failed when using regCompact software.
Cause : Program does not support Windows ME (stated in the document).
Solution : Use scanregw /opt to do registry optimization.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Windows Media Player 7.1 hang while accessing menu during playing of VCD files.
Cause : Unknown.
Solution : Disable video hardware acceleration from Tools -> Options -> Performance tab.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : DVD PictureShow SE gives an error message while loading MPEG VIO driver.
Cause : DOS environment error.
Solution : Copy all files from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\MPEG into DVD PictureShow folder in C:\Program Files folder. Download the MPEG VIO patch from Ulead website.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold no FM synthesizer sound in DOS mode. Unable to play sounds in games and Sound Blaster 16 applications.
Cause : AWEUTIL not loaded.
Solution : Load AWEUTIL in C:\Program Files\Creative\Drv folder. Must also run CTCM in C:\Program Files\Creative\CTCM folder to get correct port addresses.
OS: Windows 95.

Problem : Outlook Express terminates the Starhub dialer and redial the connection even when when dialed into the Internet.
Cause : Account setup to dial using mySingtel (terminated).
Solution : Reedit the account so that it is using Starhub dialer.

Problem : Windows ME lost thumbnail viewing capability. No thumbnail can be seen.
Cause : Probably due to reinstallation of MS Office 2000 - MSPhoto Editor.
Solution : Go to www.aumha.org/regfiles.php to download thumbnail.zip and run the patch.

Problem : Microsoft Trekker mouse lost wheel and wheel button double-clicking capability.
Cause : Unknown
Solution : Remove Microsoft Intellimouse software, remove mouse, remove Intellimouse inf file from Windows\Inf\Others folder. Restart PC, reinstall Microsoft Intellimouse software. May need to reinstall 2 times. Successful install will allow to select Wheel Mouse as the mouse type under the Intellimouse software.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Musicmatch Jukebox creates crackling sound during the splash screen (when the playlist is loading).
Cause : Unknown
Solution : None.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : PC hang after unable to read from drives. Regardless whether pressing esc to cancel or ok to retry.
Cause : Unknown. Suspect due to latest nvidia driver.
Solution : None.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Windows ME displays VMM(12) exception error.
Cause : Suspected corrupted registry
Solution : Restore registry.

Problem : Windows ME exception fault after installing Sound Blaster Live! DE5.1 drivers and applications.
Cause : Suspected corrupted registry due to known issue with too long keys.
Solution : Install drivers first, restart, ensure system is OK before install the applications.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Norton Ghost 2001 (version 6.5) Personal Edition is unable to create backup using directly writing to CDR.
Cause : Incompatible with the CDRW drive.
Solution : Create split images then burn to CD-R using: ghostpe -split=620 -auto -Z9 Split to split into 620MB, Auto is autorenaming, Z9 is to use highest compression.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Windows Media Player 9 switch back from full screen mode back to Windowed mode when play video in full screen.
Cause : A default option in Media Player prevents the full screen mode.
Solution : On the Tools menu, click Options. On the Performance tab, click Advanced. Select the Enable full-screen mode switch, and then click OK.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Microsoft Internet Explorer issues MSN search failure message whenever a website is not found. This is very irritating.
Cause : This option is activated by default by IE.
Solution : DISABLE MSN SEARCH - Normally, Internet Explorer goes to MSN Search when a URL cannot be found. To turn this off, start Internet Explorer, go the Tools menu and click Internet Options. Select the Advanced tab and under Search from the Address bar, select "Do not search from the Address bar".
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Symantec Speedisk keeps on "optimizing folders" every few seconds after optimizing the file system.
Cause : Suspect InCD apps is writing to the disk while optimization is taking place.
Solution : Disable InCD before running speedisk.

Problem : Matsushita drive (8432 CDRW) cannot play analogue CD music - will skip tracks.
Cause : Suspect CD driver / Windows problems
Solution : None. Play CD in digital mode.

Problem : Windows ME not showing logon screen, cannot logon to network.
Cause : Registry disabled it.
Solution : Delete the following key from the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\NETWORK\REALMODENET\AUTOLOGIN
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Internet Explorer 6 pauses for about 20 secs the first time use after a reconnection. 1st time connection hs no problems.
Cause : Suspect URLMON.DLL fault.
Solution : Use "http://" instead of typing only the URL. This problem has been resolved itself after upgrade to ADSL broadband.
OS: Windows ME.

Problem : Internet Explorer 6.0 open new window (using the right-click "Open link in new window") that is minimized.
Cause : Unknown.
Solution : * Open IE. * Open a link in a new window. * Maximize it like you want (you can't maximize is 100%, IE does NOT allow (remember) that setting! * Go to the first IE window. Close it. * Go to the remaining window. Close it while you hold down the SHIFT-key. * Open IE. * Maximize it completely with the standard button. * Close it. Now you're set. The first IE window will be maximized, a new linked window ('open link in new window') will be the modded size. If you play with it a little it's just possible to have the close-button in the upper-right corner. You can also download the IEWinSize utility from http://www010.upp.so-net.ne.jp/suede/en/iewinsize.html.

Cause : Certain controls are blocked by Norton Internet Security 2001
Solution : Add www.sp.gov.sg and www.sp.edu.sg to privacy settings. The problem is solved after disabling the Norton Internet Security software.

Cause : Suspect Intel IDE Bus Master driver is incompatible.
Solution : Uses the Triones Bus Master drivers supplied with the Gigabyte GA-586HX motherboard.

Problem : Microtek Scanmaker V310 scanner cannot be found when it is switched off halfway and back on again.
Cause : Suspect the scanner cannot re-intialize after reset.
Solution : Uses the supplied Swissknief application to re-detect the scanner then try again.
Note : This is only applicable if the scanner is switched on during Windows95 load so that to assume that the drivers are already loaded. If the scanner is switched off during Windows95 load, this method will not work. "

Cause : Caused by dust on the sensor.

Problem : CD-ROM drive skips while playing CD.
Cause : Tracking error. Same error after cleaning CD and drive. Drive has tracking problems.
Solution : Lubricate CD drive using WD-40.

Cause : Unknown.
Solution : The CD-ROM drive is more than 5 years old, tracking is bad or erratic.

Cause : The added enermax ball bearing fan is causing interference.
